Four Square Rules
Object: To become the leader by gaining the head square (D)
Referee: The first person in line is the referee. If there is no line, the server will referee. Use “Ro Sham Bo” if a call cannot be made.
Start:
- Players take positions in squares.
- The leader in Box D starts the game by bouncing the ball and hitting it diagonally to Box B.
- Players hit the ball from box to box in any order until somebody misses; then he/she goes to the end of the waiting line and the first child in line enters the game.
- All the players in the game advance one box towards Box D.
Rules
- The ball must bounce only one time inside any square.
- A player may block a fly ball with open hands, allow the ball to bounce once, and then hit the ball into another square.
- The ball may be hit with one or two hands with palms open (underhand or side hand)
- Cherry bombs are NOT allowed (holding the ball and slamming it to another player).
- Kicking the ball is NOT allowed.
- If a fly ball is hit to the feet of a player (“chicken feet”), play continues (no “take over”). A player must play off his/her feet or let the ball bounce once and then return the hit.
Out: A player is out if:
- He/she hits a ball on a line or out of the square.
- The ball does not bounce one time in your square before you hit it to another player.
- A player plays a ball that has bounced into someone else’s box (interference).
- A player hits a ball with a closed fist.
- A player holds or carries the ball.
- A player hits a ball overhand.
Gaga Ball
Object: Do not get hit by the ball below the knees.
Referee: The first player in line may be the referee.
Start: Twenty (20) players start with sole of one foot on the wall. One person bounces ball in the middle and on three (3) bounces say, “GA, GA, GA”. Play begins
Rules:
- Sitting on the wall is not allowed.
- You may get people out by hitting the ball with an open hand. If you get hit by the ball below the knees, you are OUT!
- No clubbing, scooping, carrying, kicking or throwing the ball. NO blocking with two hands.
- A player may NOT use the wall to jump up.
- A player is out if he/she hits balls out of the court.
- If a ball hits a player on the knee or higher and then goes out, no players are out.
- If a ball hits a player below the knee and then goes out, the player hit is out.
- Players must use a flat-handed hit only.
- Players may block the ball with one hand but this will count as a hit.
- You may hit the ball off the wall.
- You may NOT hit the ball twice in a row unless it hits the wall or a person
- You are out if you stumble over your own ball.
- If a player needs a time-out of the game, he/she must leave the game and wait to start the next game.
- Last two (2) people have a countdown from 30. If both “survive”, then it is a tie.
Nine Square
Object: To become the leader by gaining the head (nine)square.
Referee: 1st in line. If no line, server will referee; Use “Ro Sham Bo” if a call cannot be made.
Start:
- Players take positions in squares (1-9).
- Leader (box 9) starts by announcing “service”, bouncing ball to the player in square one.
- Leader is not out if he/she does not say “service” but players may ask to start again if not ready to play.
- Players hit the ball from box to box in any order (to any square) until somebody misses.
- He/she goes to the end of the waiting line and the first child enters box one.
- Players advance toward the nine square.
Rules:
- The ball must bounce only ONE time inside any square. A ball may be hit to any square.
- Players may block ball with open hands, allow the ball to bounce 1x, then hit the ball in another square.
- The ball may be hit with one or two hands with palms open (underhand or side hand)

Teatherball
Object: Hitting the ball so that the rope winds completely around the pole.
Referee: 1st person in line is the referee. If there is no line use “Ro Sham Bo” to make a call.
Start:
- Players take positions in on their sides.
- The first server is decided by using “Ro Sham Bo”.
- Server puts ball into play by hitting it off hand or by tossing it into the air and hitting
Rules:
- The opponent will hit the ball in the opposite direction.
- The ball may be hit or punched.
- One or both hands/fists may be used.
- Wind the rope completely around the pole in the direction he/she is hitting.
- Winner completely winds rope around pole or whose opponent is out by making a foul.
Out: A player is out if:
- He/she hits the ball with any part of the body other than the hands or forearms
- Catches or holds the ball or rope during play
- Touches the pole during play
- Hits the rope during play
- Throws the ball
- Steps into his/her opponent’s side.
After the opening game, the winner of the preceding game serves the next.
Two Square
Object: To become the leader by gaining the head square
Referee: The first person in line is the referee. If there is no line the server will referee. Use “Ro Sham Bo” if a call cannot be made.
Start:
- Players take positions in squares.
- The leader starts the game by bouncing the ball and hitting it to the opposite player.
- Players hit the ball from box to box until somebody misses; then he/she goes to the end of the waiting line and the first child in line enters the game. If there is no line, players switch boxes and the winner of the game serves the next game.
Rules: The rules in Two Square are the same as Four Square, except that only two squares are used.
Outs: “Outs” in Two Square are the same as Four Square.
Wall Ball Rules
The goal of the game is to strike (hit or sock with one hand) the ball in a downward motion so it bounces on the ground then hits the wall.
Basic Rules
- Two people are on the court (singles) (4 in doubles).
- The winner from previous game serves the ball.
- The receiving player must return the ball.
- The ball must bounce before a player hits it.
- After the player hits the ball it must bounce before it hits the wall.
- Lines are in.
- The first player in line is the referee. If a call cannot be made, players use Ro Sham Bo.
A player is out if...
- ball doesn’t bounce before hitting the wall
- ball doesn’t bounce before the player hits the ball
- the ball bounces more than once
- the ball hits the corner of the wall and the ground
- his/her ball hits the wall and then goes out of the court
- the ball is stopped or caught
Doubles (2 on 2): A team is allowed one miss before going out. On their second “miss’ the team is out.
